Dear Young Justice Fandom,
Please remember why you love this show.
Remember what brought us together, what made us so strong in such a short amount of time.
For such a new fandom, we’ve grown astonishingly fast. We already have an amazing collection of fan art and fanfics - heck, there’s new prompts over on the YJ Anon Meme every hour, and the writer anons doing the fills are amazing. We have great roleplays, both on Twitter and many, many other sites. The level of passion and enthusiasm we’ve seen is incredible. Frankly, I can only name a handful of other fandoms I’ve ever seen that have even come close to what we have - and even then, they’ve taken much, much longer to reach this stage.
Yeah, it’s looking like at least two ships are going to be canon. Um, so? That’s what we’re here for! That’s why fanfiction and fan art exists. And you have to admit, it was kind of obvious which ships they were going to go with, given that this is a cartoon originally intended for 10-year-old boys. As much as we all love our slash…
Yeah, M’gann left Aqualad to go rescue Superboy. Maybe she should have stayed to levitate him to safety, but Superboy was being tortured, and he had no memories. M’gann is the only one who could’ve helped him in that situation, regardless if it was a ship or not. Plus, Aqualad had the rest of the team to take care of him. Maybe the way this decision was handled wasn’t the best, but you have to remember these episodes are only 22 minutes long - there’s only so much that they’re going to be able to include.
Obviously there’s going to be things that we disagree on. If we all agreed on everything all the time, I’d be a little worried. (You know, that we were all being controlled by the Genomorphs and hive-minding.) And sharing your opinion is fine. It sparks discussion and can lead to new ideas, theories, and heck, maybe even new prompts for the good ol’ Anon Meme!
But please, let’s keep the outright bashing to a minimum. There are people behind these blogs, these posts, these drawings, these stories. And these people are all wonderful and incredible and amazing. These people are our teammates, our friends, our family.
We’re still a new team, and we’re still trying to find our direction.
While we’re figuring that out, let’s not turn on each other.
